Ever heard of NaNoWriMo? Well a friend and I agreed to do this, only not in November. Our “month” was to run from July 15 until August 15. At the end of the month we were to have written 50,000 words. She was starting from scratch, but I am fairly deep into my novel already so the agreement was that I would add 50,000 words in addition to what I’ve already written.
Guess what? It’s not happening. My wordcount actually started rolling backwards because I did some much needed editing in order to take the story where I want it to go.
By the end of the week, I vow to have written at least one new chapter. I’m going to horribly miss the goal of 50,000 words – but I’ve got to atleast get back to original wordcount, right?
Woody the Weimaraner continues to distract me horribly. It’s hard to complain about it because he’s such a sweet distraction. The kids love him. Toby the Shih-tzu tolerates him. Hubby is …um… mildly amused by him. Woody was supposed to be his dog. For several reasons, he’s just not bonded with the guy. Don’t get me wrong…he doesn’t hate him. But it’s abundantly clear that he is my dog. He loves me.
Or at least, he did. Yesterday morning I took him to the vet. When I picked him up in the afternoon I received a very cool welcome. He spent the evening giving me the cold shoulder. I don’t think his attitude towards me was helped very much by my singing, “You’ve lost that loving feeling…” as he tried to snooze.
Speaking of distractions: I have alot of knitting I need to get done. Technically, knitting is a distraction from my writing. Unfortunately, I’m being distracted away from my distraction at the moment. Tonight is a knitting group night and I am determined to go, even if it (are you ready for this?) hairlips the devil. (Today’s coloquialism is brought to you by the letter G, for Granny.) I’ve got 3 babies to knit for: two of them already born – and Christmas to continue knitting for. Yes, I know it’s only August – but did I mention I tend to get distracted?

Fortunately, there’s only a microscopic fine line between distraction and inspiration when it comes to writing, and maybe your new blog and new dog will clear the fog! <>
(I think it’s cool that you started this blog too!)
